Smith primed for possible start
A breakout game and a broken-down backfield could lead to a start for University of Kentucky tailback Alfonso Smith.
Smith, a redshirt freshman from Waggener High School, rushed for 92 yards Saturday in UK’s 34-31 victory at Mississippi State.
The Wildcats’ starting tailback in that game, Tony Dixon, suffered a strained hamstring and is questionable for Saturday’s game against Georgia at Commonwealth Stadium.
UK’s leading rusher, Rafael Little, has missed two straight games and is “very questionable,” coach Rich Brooks said.
Smith had 17 carries against Mississippi State and scored his first touchdown. He also caught two passes for 57 yards.
