Comment on More on AllofMP3 by Alex Barnett blog : Allofmp3 - down for bad.

[...] Allofmp3 - down for bad. This Allofmp3.com news doesn\'t look good.... (disclaimer time) I\'ve been a customer for around 2 years, have been recommending the site for some time and currently have about $20 unspent credit caught up in there. I\'ve never had problems with the site nor any issues around creadit card fraud in those two years. I\'m guessing now, but like Mike, I suspect the reason reason has to do with RIAA pressure, rather than Allofmp3.com doing a bad one on their customers. My take? If the RIAA has shut down this site, they are making a big mistake - the service\'s customers are paying customers, paying what they think, including me, is a reasonable pricepoint given the overpricing we\'ve seen historically from those who claim they are helping artists... I\'ve spent more on music in the last two years than ever before because I feel I\'m getting good value. This latest RIAA bull has reminded me of why they are losing CD sales. The darknet beckons.... Update: Coincedence? This data point was released yesterday...of the UK market: \"iTunes remained the most popular commercial download service with 44% market share while quasi-legal site AllOfMP3.com took second place seeing 14% of the market. Napster followed in third place. AllOfMP3.com uses loopholes in Russian law to offer albums from a pound compared to iTunes eighty pence per track. Greig Harper noted, \"This is the first time we\'ve monitored AllOfMP3.com and we were surprised when it took second place. But it offers cheap downloads, is easy to use and has no restrictions on where people can play the tracks. This is what music fans are asking for so perhaps AllOfMP3\'s popularity isn\'t that surprising.\" Early last year the international music body IFPI tried but failed to take action against the Moscow based site.\" 2nd in the UK music download market? No wonder they are tried to shut it down (again)...but the IFPI say they have nothing to do with it: \"The IFPI filed a complaint against AllofMp3.com in February of 2005; however their attempt lost steam when Vladimir Dragunov, the IFPI’s legal advisor in Russia, warned the IFPI “don’t have much chance of succeeding” if they attacked the digital music retailer. Moscow later dropped the charges against AllofMp3.com. ...\"As far as we know the site is genuinely down for repair,” an IFPI spokesperson told Slyck.com.\" Yeah, righto. [...]
